New Delhi: Liquor baron Ponty Chadha and brother Hardeep Chadha have died in an incident of cross-firing between them at the farmhouse of Ponty in Chhatarpur. One guard and another person are reported to be injured. Watch: Ponty Chadha, brother killed in cross-firing

Initial reports say that the Chadha brothers were having a tiff with certain business separations and conducted several meetings to resolve the disagreement.

Business rivalry, property dispute and a family feud could be cited  big reasons that led to the clash. 

Chadha and his brother again met today and a heated argument led to the bloody incident. No information of their body guards has been received yet

Police sources say 12 bullets were fired on Ponty Chadha's body and suspect that there was more than one shooter apart from his brother in the firing. Two persons have been detained by the police for interrogation.

The two and the injured have been taken to Fortis hospital in Vasant Kunj.

Forensic and crime teams rushed to the spot and have lifted finger prints and other evidences from the spot. Empty cartridges have also been recovered.

On October 5, a firing incident was reported from Ponty Chadha's house in Moradabad district. No one was said to be injured then.

Who is Ponty Chadha?

55-year-old Ponty Chadha has been ruling over the liquor business in Uttar Pradesh and profited big under the Mayawati regime.

Political opponents of Mayawati have often accused the BSP supremo of giving mills to liquor baron Ponty Chadha, known for his proximity to the BSP.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) government, soon after being sworn in, in March 2012, said it would hold a probe into the alleged irregularities on Ponty Chadha. It, however, later went soft on Ponty Chaddha amidst rumours of a patch-up between the ruling party and the liquor baron.
