Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav with son AkhileshLucknow: Uttar Pradesh elections are four days old, yet the suspense remains on who will be the state’s next Chief Minister. The only fact which is clear is that either Mulayam or Akhilesh will bag the coveted post-- the rest is all speculation. Sources say Akhilesh Yadav will be the Chief Minister of the state. According to sources, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has convinced senior party leaders on Akhilesh becoming the Chief Minister of the state.

Up-till-now from party leaders’s statements- especially Akhilesh-it seemed as though Mulayam would become the CM. However, since Friday, the junior Yadav’s statement has set the rumour-mongers’ tongues wagging. Akhilesh said, “The legislature party will meet tomorrow where the leader will be chosen.”

A section of party leaders want Akhilesh as the new chief minister, crediting with the party’s change of fortunes with his spirited campaign before and during the elections. However, some senior leaders, such as Mulayam’s younger brother Shivpal Yadav and the party's Muslim face Azam Khan, are said to be having some reservations about this demand.

It is ironical that Mulayam who has always had the last word on all decisions of the Smajwadi Party, has been unable to forge a consensus on this particular issue even after four days.

Mulayam himself had indicated many times during had indicated during elections that Akhilesh would be at the helm in Lucknow while he would focus on Delhi and the General Elections of 2014. However, now Akhilesh himself wants his father as the Chief Minister. The top question which everyone is asking is who will finally be UP’s next Chief Minister. No one knows yet.
