New Delhi: It is likely that Priyanka Gandhi will contest the Lok
Sabha elections from Rae Bareli in 2014. ABP News has observed that
the restructuring in Rae Bareli Congress is underway and and election is
being conducted to select capable candidates for district and panchayat
Congress committees for the first time in 14 years.
Priyanka is also slated to visit Rae Bareli after Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Amethi. It is learnt that she is taking keen interest in restructuring the entire unit with intent to encourage credible candidates and train them.
She is working on a revival plan after meetings with party workers, office bearers and electorate of Rae Bareli giving a clear indication of her entering politics with a target to fight the biggest political battle.
The camp office of Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli has been shut down. The office used to hear and review all big issues related to the constituency.
The main agenda of the 40-year-old is to re-establish contact with ground-level party workers and to understand developmental issues related to the constituency.
The Gandhi scion has been entrusted with the responsibility to look after the constituency affairs in Rae Bareli in absence of her mother and party President Sonia Gandhi.
According to sources, Priyanka is also holding Janata Darbar in Delhi to hear grievances from the constituency and also to assess progress with party workers.
Priyanka- The star campaigner
In the past the Priyanka has been the party’s star campaigner in the boroughs of her brother’s seat Amethi and Sonia's Rae Bareli.
During election campaigns she has been seen interacting with the common folk, and apparently enjoys talking to them. She intends to serve the people without actively joining politics.
It has been noted by the party that she is level-headed and organized and has got all the ability to become a good mass leader.
However, she has asserted in the past that she was never interested in joining politics.
Congress looks for a saviour in Priyanka
With Priyanka entering politics, Congress seems on a mission to revamp the party in Uttar Pradesh, especially in the Nehru-Gandhi family pocket borough.
The Congress is also reworking on the factors that contributed to the party's rout this year.
Despite frequent roadshows and public meetings by Rahul Gandhi and sister Priyanka, the Congress performed terribly in the state's assembly elections.
Rahul Gandhi has also been under pressure from party loyalists to take up a higher public profile, but he has declined to accept a government post and often keeps his distance from the daily political fray. But last month Rahul had vowed to play a more proactive role in the party drawing praise from the Congress top brass.
It will be interesting to observe whether she will take the most famous political dynasties in the country to a greater height.
Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra is the second child of late Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. She is married to Delhi businessman Robert Vadra. They have two children, Raihan and Miraya.
